The phenomenon of YouTube fan videos is not to be sneezed at, but there's a fine line between Joel Veitch's rathergood masterpieces (Who could forget the military kittens doing 'Tanz mit Laibach'?) and crappy slide-shows of google images.

It is possible thought, for an enjoyable and congruous video to be very simple: even little more than a slide-show of crappy (but well-chosen) google images.

Here are a few of my faves!

1) Andrew King - Have you news of my boy Jack? (video by mrNEOFOLK)

- this song's based on a poem by Rudyard Kipling, and mrN makes free with a metaphorical interpretation of the 'tide' and 'wind blowing'. Do not be alarmed if the song takes several minutes to get going - this is neofolk after all.

2) The Meads of Asphodel - The gods who mock us (video by kingoffiends)

- a typically vicious attack on all the world's religions at once, this meaty metal piece is nicely punctuated by a funky calypso keyboard solo - the images accompanying the names of the gods, and the added accusations flung at them, make for a pleasant powerpointesque slide-show.

3) Al Stewart - Roads to Moscow (video by aazula)

is there even any point trying to tackle subjects as sensitive as the great wars of the twentieth century? Well, being a song about a betrayed Red Army recruit, accompanied by visuals from a modern, historically-themed computer game, this video asks that question, amongst others. It's kind of eerie.
