We've all been there: stumbling home from the pub, twelve sheets to the whatsits and full of the joys of whenever, when we suddenly decide what our interior design lacks is a grubby road sign, a bit of fence, or perhaps a traffic cone - just for that touch of quintessential rebellion and/or appreciation of ludicrous imagery.
Someone always takes it a bit far though – and that’s exactly what happened in Macclesfield’s cemetery the other day (should that be ‘t’other day’?) when some reprehensible gentleman or lady made off with Ian Curtis’ gravestone. His actual gravestone!
Bloody Goths, eh? If it ain’t nailed down…
The headstone was visited all-year-‘round by thousands of dedicated miserablists, paying their respects to the Joy Division singer who hanged himself to death in 1980.
Police are appealing for witnesses as there are no CCTV cameras in the area.
The stone has ‘love will tear us apart’ written on it, and is therefore unlike most other stones.
Suggestions that the stone might have been stolen by the same dude who made off with Kurt Cobain’s ashes recently have been dismissed as improbable.
