PANICO RETURN TO THE UK THIS WEEKEND!

Lock up your daughters (and sons), because Panico, those inimitable purveyors of twisted pop, those dukes of dirty punk, are back in London in October with two highly anticipated London gigs this October showcasing their new album.

Despite their absence however, the Paris-based Chilean quartet have been anything but quiet. After being anointed by Franz Ferdinand as their new favourite band, Panico embarked on a tour with the group, followed by much-coveted support slots with Blondie and headlining spots at Vice and Clash magazine parties. What’s more, after having heard Panico’s forthcoming tracks, which absorb influences as thrillingly disparate as punk, shoegaze, Latin, garage and much more, Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos and Paul Thomson have personally requested and been confirmed to produce their new album. A truly tantalizing aural prospect indeed, and that’s before even mentioning the exclusive collaboration with Salvatore Principato, of the legendary Liquid Liquid, or their documentary film in progress helmed by James Schneider (Blue is Beautiful), which will follow Panico’s tour of deserted Northern Chile, performing in ghost towns left by the European gold miners and collaborating with the local Inca musicians, culminating in a brilliantly unique homecoming event.  

But then again, Panico have always done things their own way. Ever since breaking through with their ode to deliciously debauched mayhem that is “Transpiralo”, the band have made a point of continually going their own way, ducking when they should be weaving, zigging when they should be zagging. As a result, their 2006 album, “Subliminal Kill”, was a marvelously off-kilter combination of New York no-wave and haywire garage rock with a healthy soupcon of drop dead, South American cool that had audiences the world over in rapt attention. Lord only knows what the rest of the year holds for Panico, but given their brilliantly twisted track record so far, we can only assume that it’s going to be something good.
