Sometimes intentions are so thinly veiled they might as well just be smoke.

Personally I rate FLight of the Conchords much higher than Boosh on comedy, story and music

And still I wouldn't be caught dead buying the CD

I agree with sven. Flight Of The Conchords is a great show, sure, it could be broken down lazily to be compared to The Mighty Boosh, but it stands alone as a unique and enjoyable programme. The album however, only really achieves the desired result with those who have watched the show. Admittedly one or two tracks do get a few smirks from the unfamiliar, but as a seperate piece of work, it doesn't really cut the old mustard. Comedy albums can work, I just did not feel that the Conchords CD would be in anyway more necessary a purchase as their old radio show, which contained most of the songs and the sketches as well.

The prospect of The Mighty Boosh getting even more exposure and inflicting their already worn thin schtick upon us in musical guise is a saddening thought.

But there are some examples where humour has been a prominent factor in an artist's success.

flight of the conchoreds was good. the characters were abit pathetic, which i didn't like, i wanted to shake them by the shoulders.... the boosh was more straight up and lively.

the first series was good but as is the case of any comedy that goes on for far too long it has descended into self parody

i do like how fielding grins wildly during paparazzi shots, its slightly refreshing to see someone actually revel in the attention they get off them.

I loved Nathan Barley - Jonatton Yeah? reminded me of an ex-boss of mine! But can you imagine it being run to death over several series?

  • 09:50, 23 May 2008
    thegreatsmellofbrutethegreatsmellofbrute

The Mighty Boosh, on the other hand, reminds me of everything that's wrong with student 'humour'.

  • 11:21, 28 May 2008
    blackfagblackfag

my dad likes the problem more than me and as i understand it has quite a large 'older' following, so student humour is a bit unfair.

  • 07:22, 29 May 2008
    thegreatsmellofbrutethegreatsmellofbrute

When I wrote 'student "humour"', I was referring the way the programme relies on the repetition of certain pet cliches, regardless of whether they're funny or not (in the same way that students love to share in-'jokes'); not the worst culprit, mind you (that would probably be Little Britain). For the record, my mum really likes The Mighty Boosh!

  • 11:21, 29 May 2008
    thesvenhunterthesvenhunter

oh it's by no means as bad as Little Britain - it's mildly amusing, but it does NOT have classic written all over it
