I'd like to find a way to set up some sort of queue on a server that we could all add songs to

rather than one person taking over the mountpoint and only relinquishing it as and when they feel like it

(ie me.. ;-))

i thought it would be nice to redirect you player to the icecast server

can't hear anything in winamp although it shows up as playing - the timer is ticking and I have a song name displayed etc

the PC plugged into the office stereo only listens on /office at the mo

although it'd be nice to have some sort of switching mechanism

well the icecast server is there and running - if you want to have a go let us know and we'll sort it out

plus matt's working on playlists so when we have more music in you could do similar with the website

And maybe you could give reviewers a live web-cam hat, like Justin.tv.

not a cam but maybe give them a chance to send them a 30/1h show - we had one on the radio called the cake hour, someone would send 57m with about 10songs and a couple introductions

(it was the cake hour because it was saturdays at 5pm)

tim: what should people to to broadcast on the playlouder icecast?

we need to set up ldap auth first really

so people can use their existing usernames and passwords

but otherwise it's just a matter of installing an icecast broadcasting program

(will compile a list of suitable ones - nicecast is great on mac)

pointing it at icecast.playlouder.com,

specifying a mountpoint, and playing whatever you like!

if you want people to use their existing names but do not want to put an LDAP you can always try to get the session name (current username of that people on the computer requesting) and put it by default as i presume no one will hve the local pass and it's a closed environkment

we already have an ldap

the problem is getting icecast to use ldap for auth - at the moment it's not supported

so if server is icecast.playlouder.com and the port is 8000 and the mountpoint is /stream.ogg (using vorbis ogg encoder and oddcast with winamp) am I ready to go?

I take it it is not a free for all tho - I need your permission at some point? At the moment the encoder refuses to connected otherwise I would quite happily make a hijack attempt!

you'll need a username and password, i'm afraid lost - we haven't yet got the icecast server to authenticate based on your usual playlouder username and password, which kinda puts a dampener on this for the time being. I'll see what we can do!

one more thing, lost - i'd reccomend calling your mountpoint something other than stream.ogg - if you use /lost or similar, it'll avoid your mountpoint clashing with those used by others
