pretty pleased to hear about the release of a new record over here. when they announced it would be called 'distortion' i imagined a record full of pop mary chain songs like 'when my boy walks down the street' and was pretty pleased to hear merritt say the record will not be far off that! just interested to hear other peoples opinions on the band as they do seem to be a band that divide people. any favourite albums/songs?

I've always been a massive fan of Charm of the Highway Strip myself, that's a great record.

one of my mums friends saw them at womad around the time of 69 love songs without knowing them and said papa was a rodeo reduced him to actual tears! apparently there is also a ban on clapping because he has extremly sensitive hearing, hence probably why it would be difficult for him to play distortion live...

I saw them at the Royal Festival Hall the other year, superb gig. I don't remember there being a ban on clapping at that, but he was in a droll grump from giving up fags. I wonder if he kept it up.

I'm listening to Distortion now. It's sublime. Mary Chain, Ronettes, Velvets, Steppenwolf, Charles Asnavour, Tony Bennet, My Bloody Valentine

just got my hands on an advance of distortion last night and been giving it alot of my ears. the upbeat tracks like three way, california girls and the aceness that is too drunk to dream are simply the magnetic fields at their poppy best, which is all you can ask for really innit? the slower tracks dont seem to come off as well though, the distortion kinda makes it difficult to get the jist. oh well maybe with time it'll grow like 'i' did. also anyone else listening to the record notice how much drive on driver sounds like grand canyon? thats gotta be intentional!

Does anyone else think that the new Springsteen single sounds a little like Magnetic Fields?

what is it? 'Girls in summer clothes' sounds a bit like 'When you were my baby' but that might not be relevant
